Grain Based By-Products

Wheat Bran

Wheat bran is the outer hull of the wheat kernel, which is typically removed during processing. Wheat bran is rich in fiber and other noncalorie nutrients. Wheat bran is useful as feed for poultry and other livestock, as part of a balanced ration with other inputs.

Corn Gluten Feed Pellets

Corn Gluten Feed is produced as a by-product of the wet milling process of maize grain. It offers medium protein and high energy for ruminants. This palatable, low-starch product is high in rumen degradable protein, B vitamins, phosphorus and highly digestible fiber.

Distillers Dried Grains

Distillers grains are a cereal byproduct of the distillation process. There are two main sources of these grains. The traditional sources were from brewers. More recently, ethanol biofuel plants are a growing source. It is created in distilleries by drying mash, and is subsequently sold for a variety of purposes, usually as fodder for livestock.

Corn Gluten Meal

Corn gluten meal is a byproduct of the corn syrup production; it is edible and is most commonly used in animal and pet feed as an inexpensive protein source.

Oilseed Based By-Products

Soybean Meal

Soybean meal is used in food and animal feeds, principally as a protein supplement, but also as a source of metabolizable energy.

Soya Hull Pellets

Soy hulls are a by-product of soybean oil and meal production. This product consists largely of the skin which covers the soybean. Soy hulls do not generally need any further processing to feed, and is a very cost effective feed for the dairy industry.

Cottonseed Meal

Cottonseed meal is the by-product remaining after cotton is ginned and the seeds crushed and the oil extracted. The remaining meal is usually used for animal feed and in organic fertilizers.

Canola Meal

Canola meal is palatable, with an excellent amino acid profile and low levels of glucosinolates. When used in dairy rations, it can increase milk production by one liter of milk, per cow, per day. Canola meal can be used in all stages of production for swine and poultry and is also commonly used in fish feed.

Animal Based By-Products

Fishmeal and Superpro

Fish meal, or fishmeal, is a commercial product mostly made from fish that are not used for human consumption; fishmeal is generally used to feed farm animals in agricultural setting. Because it is calorically dense and cheap to produce, fishmeal has played a critical role in the growth of factory farms and the number of farm animals it is possible to breed and feed.

Meat and Bone Meal

Meat and bonemeal is a product of the rendering industry. It is typically about 48–52% protein, 33–35% ash, 8–12% fat, and 4–7% water. It is primarily used in the formulation of animal feed to improve the amino acid profile of the feed.

Feather Meal

Feather meal is a by-product of processing poultry; it is made from poultry feathers by partially grinding them under elevated heat and pressure, and then grinding and drying. Feather meal is used in formulated animal feed and in organic fertilizer.
