Employee Spotlight: Tim Woodside, Purchasing Specialist at SOTG KC

What is your job title and location?

Purchasing Specialist at SOTG KC.

How long have you been employed with SOTG?

Since April 24, 2017.

What is your history/career path prior to SOTG?

Born and raised in KC until relocating to New Jersey where I graduated high school. Moved back to KC to go to school to be a kindergarten teacher. Found success in real estate until the Great Recession. Spent the next 5+ years working in accounting and purchasing. Burned out, I looked to my bucket list and become a flight attendant. Most recently, I was in project management.

What are your current responsibilities?

The running joke is that I buy office supplies. I also procure for Moderna, Mochasa, Mount Dora Farms (that’s an alliteration though) and Seaboard Special Crops. In addition, I process invoices and credit card statements for payment, troubleshoot printers and copiers, run monthly and yearend reports, order A/P and payroll checks for all divisions, negotiate vendor agreements, prepare shipments, research and implement cost saving alternatives and establish internal processes.

What do you enjoy most about working for SOTG?

That I can be “me”…AKA: bright pants; I took that for granted until I worked where that wasn’t the case.

What important values do you think SOTG delivers on?

Promoting from within…I love Brandi VanRoss’ success story.

What surprised you most about the job or its location?

The decentralization of each division…it surprises vendors, too.

How do you spend your free time? What do you like to do in the city where you live?

I wish I could say reading but I get bored way too easily so instead I find myself aimlessly walking the aisles at Target…I’m now realizing how pathetic that sounds and thinking I should have stuck with reading. Taking my two dogs (goldendoodle and miniature dachshund) on walks downtown since moving there last July. When I’m not walking the dogs, you can find me day drinking on a patio, eating nachos or brunching…cheers!

What is your hidden talent? Or something most people don’t know about you?

I like to think caroke…I have a microphone in my car; but those who know me would probably say home decorating. People are surprised to learn that I listen to country music, can’t binge-watch (again, get bored way too easily) and don’t eat meat on the bone.
